We detailed what the trial version will consist of before, but in short, it’s a roughly one-hour-long segment that lets players experience a brief portion of gameplay in Bailu Village. That segment won’t contain any of the game’s main story at the beginning. However, it will offer some bits of the game’s storyline, along with mini-games, puzzles, and of course, combat.

The demo ends when you reach 9:00 p.m. in-game or defeat the final boss. However, it can be replayed.

Ys Net didn’t offer any specific timeframe for when backers can expect their trial code. From what we know, Fangamer will send them out via email — not forklift — sometime over the weekend (9/28-9/29).

Specifically, the trial code will come in a survey email, and here’s how to download and activate the Shenmue III Backer Trial Version:

Navigate to the Backer Management page Click “Get Download Codes” Redeem the code via the Epic Games Store If you don’t have an EGS account already, you can sign up for free here.

Ys Net also recommends using controllers instead of mouse and keyboard. The final product will support mouse and keyboard play, but at this time, the trial build is better optimized for controller use.

Shenmue III will be available November 19 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and yes, it is EGS exclusive on PC.
