A few days ago, it was Modern Warfare’s epic launch trailer set to Metallica’s Enter Sandman that blew us away. Now, it’s an incredibly action-packed glimpse at the shooter’s Spec Ops mode. You can see all of the action above.
Not only does the trailer show the return of what looks like the Mile High Club mission from Call of Duty 4, but it also shows various other combat zones, such as airports, city streets, municipal buildings, vaults, and a whole lot more.
Oh, and there’s a nuclear warhead because of course.
Dubbed by Activision as the “next evolution in Spec Ops,” the mode includes 4-player co-op across massive missions and operations. As we’ve known for some time, Modern Warfare’s single-player and multiplayer elements will be interconnected via a “unified narrative experience,” and Activision says that Spec Ops will be a crucial part of that.
According to an official blog post about the mode, Activision says that:
Activision has also confirmed that many multiplayer killstreaks will be available in the mode. There will also be several vehicles available. The official blog post mentions airstrikes and UAVs as two killstreak rewards, and tanks, helicopters, and ATVs as three of the mode’s available vehicles.
Spec Ops will also feature Operations and Missions. Featuring 4 players on a single team, Operations are vast and expansive — think something similar to Operations in Battlefield 5. Missions are a bit smaller and can be completed alone or with a team. According to Activision, Missions will have specific challenges for players to complete and will include a star ranking system.
Other multiplayer modes will sync with Spec Ops, as well. Progress made in multiplayer will “carry over” to Spec Ops, where “operators, load-outs, and progress,” will be available.
Finally, Modern Warfare will have a horde mode of sorts. Called “Special Ops Survival,” this mode will allow players to team up with three friends (4 players total) to face waves of enemies across three different maps. The only catch is that the mode is a timed PS4 exclusive until October 1, 2020, which is a bummer for Xbox One and PC players.
Most of Modern Warfare’s Spec Ops mode will be available on all platforms when it launches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you’ve not already pre-ordered the game, be sure to head over here and secure your copy ahead of time.
In the meantime, be sure to check out our beta impressions … as if you needed more reason to be on the hype train. Stay tuned for our official review in the coming weeks.
